National Tire Safety Week (NTSW) is an annual initiative of the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) that aims to educate motorists about simple yet essential steps for proper tire care, safety, and maintenance as an essential part of road safety. The initiative is supported by USTMA members and acknowledged by the National Lieutenant Governors Association in its 2025 tire safety resolution.

Tires are one of the most important safety components of the car and the only part that touches the road and, as such, critical to road safety. That’s why tire care and maintenance should be a top priority for all motorists.

USTMA recommends drivers check their tire pressure monthly, regularly check their tire tread depth, and ensure their tires are rotated and properly aligned. With routine maintenance by a tire service professional, tires can maintain optimum performance and service life.

POP QUIZ: How often should you rotate your tires? Rotate your tires based on recommendations in your vehicle owner’s manual. If no rotation period is specified, we recommend every 5,000 to 8,000 miles. Rotating your tires helps them to wear evenly. Learn more: www.ustires.org/ntsw

Tires are complex, but checking your tread wear doesn’t have to be. Use the penny trick. Turn a penny upside down and place it in one of your tire’s major grooves. If part of Lincoln’s head is covered by the tread, you’re good to go. If you can see all of his head, it’s new tire time. Learn More: www.ustires.org/ntsw #NTSW #TireMaintenance
